Scheduling tips
Here are some tips for using the Scheduler to flexibly schedule resources that aren't just books.
Schedule a single chapter
You can choose to schedule just one chapter of a book. In this example, let's say I want my daughter to review a chapter of Marguerite Makes a Book that she's already read before doing a project based on that chapter. Here's how to do it:
- Find Marguerite Makes a Book in the Bookfinder and click Schedule It.
- Assign the book to Emily for History.
- To remember that I want to her make her own book page, I'll create a custom study method called "Read and Create Book Page."
- I want Emily to read just chapter 3 again to review how to make a book page, so I'll use the Division Selector to choose just chapter 3.
Schedule without lesson titles
Here's how to schedule a resource that doesn't have lesson titles, such if I'm doing a picture study from a coffee table book of Grant Wood's art but I haven't yet chosen the pictures I want to do.
- Create a new resource called "Grant Wood's Art." I won't share this resource with other CM Organizer users because it's just for my use.
- Make the Division Type "Picture" because I'm going to study pictures by Grant Wood.
- Add six divisions, one for each picture I want to study. I'm leaving the titles blank because I haven't chosen my pictures yet.
- Click Save & Schedule to add it to my plan.
Now when this assignment shows up on my Daily Plan, I'll add a note to the assignment to record which picture I decided to use.
Scheduling outside lessons or sports
You can schedule outside activities such as sports or music lessons. Here's how I schedule piano lessons for my son John:
- Create a new resource called "Piano" and put "Lesson" for the division type.
- Add as many lessons as I expect John will have this school year. (I can always edit the resource later to add more if needed.)
- Schedule the resource for the days John has piano lessons.
I'll track this by checking off each lesson as he goes to it. I can track home practice by marking a lesson Worked On for the practice day, then Finished for the day of the lesson.
